She is a high-profile casualty of the shakeup thatâs currently taking place at MSNBC.
Reidâs 7pm eastern timeslot will be filled by rotating hosts.
Left-wing firebrand Reidâs final episode aired on Monday, but the decision to axe her has not been received positively at MSNBC.
Maddow, 51, slammed MSNBC bosses in a monologue on Monday.
She told viewers that Reidâs decision to leave the network was one thatâs âhard to take.â
âIn all of the jobs I have had, in all of the years I have been alive, there is no colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than Joy Reid.
âI love everything about her. I have learned so much from her.
âI donât want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC and personally I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door.
âItâs not my call and I understand that, but thatâs what I think.â
News surrounding Reidâs departure emerged over the weekend.
And the speculation forced Rebecca Kutler, the networkâs president, to hastily arrange a meeting with colleagues.
Reid addressed the speculation on Sunday, thanking people for reaching out.
Maddow didnât stop there and continue to scold MSNBC chiefs.
She branded it âunnervingâ that the networkâs two non-white hosts are losing their programs.
âAnd that feels worse than bad no matter who replaces them, that feels indefensible and I do not defend it,â Maddow said.
Maddow usually only appears on Monday nightâs but Alex Wagner, who is on air at 9pm eastern Tuesday to Friday, will be replaced by former White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
Psaki joined MSNBC in 2022 after leaving Joe Bidenâs administration.
But, Maddow has appeared on TV screens every night during the first month of Donald Trumpâs administration.
She plans to continue this routine until his 100 days mark.
Wagner is not leaving the network entirely as she is a senior political analyst.
PRESENTER SHAKEUP
MSNBC has reportedly lined up three faces that will appear in Reidâs timeslot, per The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Names include Symone Sanders-Townsend, a former Kamala Harris adviser, Michael Steele, the ex-chairman of the Republican National Committee, and Alicia Menendez, the daughter of former congressman Bob Menendez.
MSNBC chiefs have also culled Katie Phangâs show, but she is not leaving entirely.
She is a legal correspondent for the network.
The progressive network will subsequently undergo a schedule shakeup.
Ana Cabrera and Katy Turâs shows will now be two hours long and Ali Velshiâs program will air for three hours.
MSNBC has refused to comment on Maddowâs tirade.
MSNBC is not the only network undergoing a presenting and scheduling shakeup.
Trump critic Jim Acosta has left CNN after he lost his slot on the schedule.
Acosta was bumped off the schedule after losing his 10am slot, which has been filled by Wolf Blitzer.
CNN chiefs have refreshed six shows on their daily schedule.
Prominent journalist Jake Tapper has a two-hour slot as his show airs between 5pm and 7pm.
